Special Considerations for Dummy Profit Centers

A Dummy Profit Center is a profit center that you have created which, normally, does not reference a physical location with actual inventory and sales. An example of this type of profit center is a "Region" or "District Profit Center". These dummy profit centers serve several functions. With regard to DataTrak, these profit centers are used for organizing profit centers into "paths" that make drill-down reporting possible.

When you set up the ExecuTrak system, you define the inventory, sales, and cost accounts as well as the inventory records for actual profit centers. You normally do not set up these items for dummy profit centers, however, in order for certain management reports to correctly report data, it is necessary to add these accounts to the dummy profit center's chart of accounts AND to add the inventory items for dummy profit centers.

Important Note: Since the GL accounts are required when you add the inventory master records for a profit center, you must add the accounts to a profit center's chart of accounts prior to adding the inventory records.

GL accounts and inventory records are created in the ExecuTrak system, not through DataTrak. See the Set Up GL Accounts for Dummy Profit Centers topic for help on adding a GL account to a profit center's chart of accounts. See the Set Up Inventory Master Records for Dummy Profit Centers topic for help on adding inventory items.
